The Zero Carbon program of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aimed at measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its headquarters in Santiago de Chile, the Diplomatic Academy and five representations abroad: the Chilean Mission to the United Nations (UN), the Chilean Mission to the European Union (EU), the Chilean Embassy in Brazil, the Chilean Embassy in China and the Consulate General of Chile in San Francisco.

Fundación Chile was in charge of measuring the Carbon Footprint, which in 2010 measured the GHG emissions of the offices and employees. This quantification was independently verified by Ernst & Young and the carbon certificates used for the neutralization were acquired through SCX, Santiago Climate Exchange, and come from renewable energy projects carried out in Brazil.

This important milestone was announced on January 26, 2012, during a panel on sustainable initiatives at the United Nations building in New York.
