Within the framework of its Sustainability Strategy, Empresas Melón has strengthened a transversal and coordinated work that promotes the transition to a less carbon-intensive production. This objective, together with other strategic initiatives, defines today the company’s path towards an increasingly sustainable business development.
As of 2020, the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) – of which Melón is a member through the Inter-American Cement Federation (FICEM) – has made a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
In line with this challenge, Melón has proposed to reduce its emissions to 520 kg of CO₂ per ton of cement produced by 2030, advancing in the transformation of its energy matrix by replacing conventional fuels with alternatives that have a lower environmental impact. In addition, the company has incorporated the use of renewable energies certified under the international I-REC standard, guaranteeing the traceability and clean origin of its electricity supplies.
