Within the framework of its Sustainability Strategy, Empresas Melón has strengthened a transversal and coordinated work that promotes the transition to a less carbon-intensive production. This objective, together with other strategic initiatives, continues to define the company’s path towards increasingly sustainable business development.
As of 2020, the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) – of which Melón is a member through the Inter-American Cement Federation (FICEM) – has made a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Melón maintains its goal to reduce its emissions to 520 kg of CO₂ per ton of cement produced by 2030.The company continues to make progress in the transformation of its energy matrix by replacing conventional fuels with alternatives that have a lower environmental impact.
