The project consists of the generation of energy from biomass, which is located within the premises of the Trupán complex of Arauco companies.

Project details
  • Location: Ñuble , Chile
  • Category: Forest Biomass
  • Standard: Clean Development Mechanism

It was designed so that 60% of the energy generated will supply the energy needs of the complex itself, while the remaining 40% will be injected into the Central Interconnected System (SIC).

The project uses biomass generated in industrial operations, mainly from sawmills (sawdust and tree bark) and forestry operations, which otherwise would have been burned in the open air or deposited for natural decomposition.

The contribution of this project in terms of CO2 emissions reduction consists of the industrial complex’s self-supply of energy, generated from clean sources. Thus, such amount of energy is no longer consumed from the SIC (mostly generated from fossil fuels), and, on the contrary, sustainable energy is injected into the system. In addition, by reusing these waste materials, the emission of greenhouse gases resulting from the burning and decomposition of waste (CO2 and methane) is avoided.

This project is registered under the CDM standard, with identification code 0259.
