Emissions from neutralized corporate offices correspond mainly to electricity and fuel consumption, personnel transportation, business travel and waste disposal. The emissions inventory is carried out under the GHG Protocol methodology and is verified by an independent third party, EY Chile, thus obtaining the International CO2 SCX Neutral.
With more than 15 years of commitment to climate change, Colbún has defined in its corporate strategy the objective of maintaining the CO2 (in its Chilean operations) below the Company’s average emission factor of of the Central Interconnected System (tonCO2e/MWh), in addition to developing projects to reduce CO2 under different certification standards. To date, the Company has five plants and one project registered under the Clean Development Mechanism and the Clean Development Mechanism.

In addition, and in order to develop actions that allow a concrete contribution to the reduction of the carbon footprint, Colbún has sought to establish partnerships with public and private agents, in order to disseminate good practices in this field, mainly by neutralizing greenhouse gas emissions from sporting events, seminars, corporate travel and, more recently, by promoting tourist routes with CO2 neutral. The Company has offset emissions from 101 lodgings, restaurants, stores and museums in Lastarria-Bellas Artes, Easter Island, Puerto Varas and Valdivia.
