As part of its commitment to sustainability, Colbún has carried out various environmental and climate change initiatives. National reference in the generation of clean energy, with four of its hydroelectric plants registered under the Clean Development Mechanism, among others.

That is why for the fifth consecutive year Colbún has decided to neutralize its greenhouse gas emissions associated with the operations of its corporate offices for 2015. In 2016, it decided to neutralize its emissions with carbon credits generated by the Hornitos hydroelectric power plant, located in Aconcagua, Valparaíso Region. As part of the process, the measurement was carried out under the GHG Protocol methodology and verified by an independent third party, in this case Ernst&Young, neutralizing a total of 1,956 tons CO2e.

In the socio-environmental field, Climate Change has been of great concern and relevance. In the field of socio-environmental management, specifically in Climate Change issues, it has been of great concern and relevance. That is why it has carried out several initiatives in the last 15 years, among these; four of the hydroelectric power plants are registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), also the hydroelectric power plant La Mina is the first plant in Chile that is measuring its emissions of CO2 from the construction stage. At the same time, Colbún seeks to generate a balanced generation mix, which means having a significant component of renewable energy (hydroelectric and NCRE) with an efficient thermal contribution, in order to maintain an efficient CO2 below the SIC average, among others, are some of Colbún’s initiatives and efforts in climate change mitigation.
