This neutralization corresponds mainly to emissions generated by electricity consumption, fuel consumption for mobilization, personnel transportation, business travel, transportation of supplies and waste disposal, and the total neutralized emissions were 1,442 tons CO2e.

The emissions inventory is carried out using the GHG Protocol methodology, based on the strictest criteria and methods for accounting Greenhouse Gases, and was verified by an independent third party, EY Chile, concluding with SCX’s CO2 Neutral International Certification.

The offsetting of greenhouse gases from the corporate offices was carried out through carbon credits generated by the Hornitos run-of-river hydroelectric power plant, located in the Aconcagua basin (Valparaíso Region), which is registered under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations.

Colbún has been managing measures and actions related to carbon footprint and climate change for almost two decades, thus contributing to SDG13 “Climate Action”. Considering the roadmap that Colbún has set for the development of variable source renewable energy projects by 2030, and which considers adding a generating park of 4,000 MW of solar and wind projects, the Company has the goal of reducing its emission factor by 47% by 2030 compared to 2018.
